Times piece discusses the first thing I thought of when I heard the Yahoo-MS news a couple weeks ago - that being the philosophical technology differences. The couple of acquired properties that MS ported supposedly were a nightmare to port to their platform and there’s just no way they could rewrite all of Yahoo’s systems. Would they be able to stomach running Java and PHP on *nix boxes?
